As mentioned in the previous post, we use seven steps in our coaching process to achieve the goal of Zero Parasites.

1. Identify the parasites

Make a list of things that sap your energy. A good way to start is to identify about 20 parasites, or maybe more, because, when we start to look for them, we quickly realise that there are a lot, and that we find them in every part of our life. It is important to write them down, but at this stage we do not need to worry about what order they are in. The easiest way to do it is to write them down as you think of them and be creative.

Where are these parasites? You can start looking for them in these places:

Personal relationships: family, friends, work colleagues, bosses, neighbours, etc.

Job: office or work-space (clutter, noise, atmosphere, heating etc.).

Home: a broken lamp, an old piece of furniture that needs throwing away, a door that squeaks because it needs oiling, etc.

Car: it needs to go to the garage, it needs cleaning, etc.

Computer: your IT habits

Finances: problems related to money

Health: food, exercise, visits to the doctor, etc.

2. Look for positive reasons

Why do we put up with the parasite? What are the positive reasons that make us put up with these energy sappers? These reasons are the benefits that explain why we tolerate the problem, because it has been proven that behind every behaviour, even the most ridiculous, there is a positive reason that makes us continue doing it and continue maintaining the problem, even though it bothers us. It is important, before beginning to act on the parasites, to look for the positive reasons that have led us to keep them.

Example: I prefer to give some money to the flower lady rather than be hassled by her. I feel guilty for not telling her that I do not want to buy flowers.

Example: the colleague I share an office with opens the window every morning even if it is raining or is cold and I don’t know how to ask him not to. I do not want to argue with him.

3. Be aware of the cost of the parasite

What are the costs of tolerating the parasite? By not freeing ourselves from the parasite or resolving the issue, what problems are we causing for ourselves? Normally there are two types of costs: direct and indirect.

Direct costs: discomfort, irritation, nerves, stress. It is an emotional thing. Feeling physically ill.

Indirect costs: health problems, level of confidence, self-esteem, or a lasting feeling of discomfort or suffering.

4. Make sure that our options are organic

An organic objective means that it is in harmony with our environment (personal, family, work, etc.). It is not about fighting with the entire world. Our objective must be achieved by applying the coaching concept of being always positive. It is important not to reach the state of “Zero Parasites” in a violent way. We have to work and support ourselves within our environment. We must tell those close to us what we are doing, so that they can understand and support us. They need to understand that achieving this objective is what allows us to protect, respect and love ourselves, and, if we achieve it, we can offer them more of us.

5. Decide to change with an understanding of the cause

At this stage, knowing the positive reasons that led us to tolerate the parasite, knowing what its costs represent and having verified that the change is organic, we can decide to act with an understanding of the cause. Returning to our analogy of the hosepipe, we are going to decide whether or not to fix the leak, depending on what is in our best interests.

6. Organise the list in order of priority

In coaching these are the phases called “exploring options” and “closure”. We have identified the parasites, we have evaluated the importance of acting, and we have listed the various options for sorting out the situation. So we reach the closure phase and we can determine our action plan, which involves facts and dates: how, when, with whom, etc.

7. Implement the Action Plan

It’s time to start moving towards our goal and to start working! Now it is a matter of slowly removing these parasites from our lives. You will soon notice the difference!

Conclusion:

1. A fundamental principle in coaching is that every one of us has to take responsibility for the results we achieve in our life. (The concept of responsibility.)

2. When you start working with this concept, you will realise that you will suffer more than before (conflicts of values). This is normal and it is happening because you have just focused your attention on this topic. In reality, you are not suffering more than before, it is just that your suffering was hidden before. This is good news! Remember that you can not change something that you are not aware of. I encourage you all to try and get down to work, and see what you think, we are waiting to hear your comments about it!

In any coaching process we find often that our client comes across obstacles that get in his way to making the changes necessary on the path towards his ultimate goal. These “obstacles” or elements that sap our energy and do not allow us to move forward were called “parasites” by Thomas J. Leonard, who developed a coaching tool called “Zero Parasites” to help his clients get rid of barriers.

How does it work?

A parasite is something that takes away our energy but with what we still keep in our lives. Something that depends on us but which we could remove and eliminate. The parasite can be something simple that does not effect us much, such as failure to change a light bulb, or something that effects us a lot, such as a difficult relationship with a pessimistic and negative colleague.

To understand the goal of “Zero Parasites”, let’s use the analogy of a hosepipe. You want to use a hosepipe to water some roses at the bottom of the garden. It turns out that your hose has holes in it. Every day, more and more holes appear in the hosepipe. The hose ends up leaking and, if we do nothing, it leaks more every day. And the result? The pressure decreases to such an extent that the water hardly reaches the roses.

In our daily lives, we accept these leaks, but it isn’t water pressure that we are losing, it is our vital energy. The cumulative effect of this way of living is that we lose all of our vital energy without even realising it. In these situations, which we all experience, our coaching goal is to reach a state of “Zero Parasites” so that:

1. We do not allow our vital energy to be sapped
2. We stop putting up with situations that we can change
3. We will not put up with things without reacting, we are proactive
4. We reach a state of zero tolerance, zero annoyance, zero interference
5. We stop needlessly contaminating ourselves
6. We stop remaining passive when faced with the things that sap our energy
7. We can escape from compromises, explanations and justifications

The problem with inaction

What do we risk if we continue putting up with parasites? How do we feel about living this way?

If we continue to be tolerant, remaining passive, then we are likely to feel worried, irritated, listless, tired and, ultimately, we will end up with hardly any vital energy. We will feel overwhelmed, stressed, lacking in motivation and without enthusiasm.

The benefits of Zero Parasites

What if we remove the parasites, the uncomfortable situations and people that take up our time, that sap our vital energy?
We will discover immediate benefits: we will feel that we are not losing time or energy, we will be in control of our lives, we will progress more rapidly because we will have more energy, motivation and desire. We will have more time to spend doing the things we want to do. Our quality of life will improve, with more genuine personal relationships, surrounded by people who do not upset us, and we will feel more positive and more relaxed. And we will definitely be in a better mood, something which will be obvious because positive energy is easy to see.

How do we reach a state of “Zero Parasites”? This will be explained in the next post, so stay tuned!

To do so, this interesting coaching tool, named the 12 Times, consists on taking the approximate 100 hours we all have for us during the week (taking out the normal 8 hours sleep) and divide them into 12 main areas mostly present in our life.

The idea is, first, to assign to each of the activities the real number of hours we think we use (for instance, we spend 50 hours working, 10 hours watching TV, 2 hours jogging, etc- you have the tool in excel format for you to download at the end of this post), and then analyse how you are using your time.

Do you agree with the result? Are you astonish that you only spend a few hours doing what you really love doing? Are we happy with the way our time is spread among the different areas?

Whatever the result may be, you have a second column to note down what you really wish, what you would like your “ideal week” to be in terms of how many hours do you spend in each of the activities you do. That is, how do I want to spend the 100 hours that I have available for me? How my ideal week would look like? As from this point, compare the numbers and make some notes for yourself. Which areas do require a better balance? What can I do seeing this result to improve a bit my life, my time?

The idea of this coaching tool is to help all us clarify our life, seeing the result in clear numbers, to put our focus on those areas in which we do not live as we would like. It is a first step to start thinking on an action plan to make those small changes that could result on a huge improvement. Check it out and let us know!.

Click below to download the 12T tool. You must be registered to open the tool (the password is mailed on your welcome email) and you can do so here completely for free.

It involves observing and influencing the activities and main goals that we intend to carry out.

To be efficient, supervision must be done in an organised manner, and must be used to make others involved in the project aware that we are monitoring the progress of the project and any problems that emerge. Supervision focuses mainly on short-term activities.

The purpose of supervision

Supervision is a routine process. It begins once the planning phase of our project is complete and ends when the project finishes. Effectively, supervision involves keeping a record of problems that have emerged in order to:

Anticipate similar problems which may arise again

Identify current problems and mistakes

Correct problems and redesign certain activities

Generate feedback

Encourage progress

Motivate

What are we supervising?

The specific points to be supervised vary according to the project, but usually include a range of factors related to the project’s operation, technical aspects or costs. It is best to draw up a good supervision plan that includes, for example:

Activities and progress of our project according to its goals: each activity and important task should be supervised to make sure that we never lose sight of the ultimate goal we have set ourselves.

Delivery of the project: if the project has stages requiring interaction between our team and other external entities, we must check that communication is taking place properly (i.e. are we sending the right information to the right people at the right time?). We should also check the views of the parties involved. We must ensure that those who have to validate the different parts of the project, complete their assessment at the appropriate time, to avoid surprises once everything is finished.

Access and use of resources: check the resources provided and reallocate them, if possible, to save costs.

Current programme and changes to it: we usually need to do a detailed follow-up of projects in which programme changes are anticipated before it starts.

How do you supervise effectively?

Here are some steps for a good supervision process:

Determine what will be supervised (indicator / measure) depending on the type of task / activity being supervised.

Decide how and when (how often) it will be supervised. Choose the method or tool for monitoring depending on what is being supervised. For financial supervision, it would be appropriate to use some accounting software or an Excel spreadsheet. For activities or human resources it may be a “to do” list, and for general tasks a list of checkpoints can be used.

When supervising, develop simple, short and concise recording methods.

Supervise as has been planned, and recorded what you observe.

Describe all the problems that you identify.

Consider whether the problem is so important that you need to find a solution, whether the solution is needed urgently, whether the problem is becoming bigger or smaller, and whether it is related to another problem.

In addition, monitor how the new solution fits the problem, and write a report on this matter.

To summarise, try to keep all activities for reaching a goal under control. With real-(or quasi-real) time information about all of our processes, it will be easier for us to respond to changes and unforeseen situations, or to correct mistakes which could not be anticipated during the planning phase.

As we only know the school where we personally trained as a coach, we cannot assess which school or course is better or best suited to what you are looking for. However, there are some questions that you can consider before deciding which school to go to for your coach training.

The first thing to do is to take paper and pencil (or computer :-)) and try to answer the following:

1. What is your motivation for studying coaching?
2. What significance will coaching have in your life?
3. At the end of your studies, what do you hope to have achieved?
4. What is your favourite method of learning or which do you find most efficient?
5. How important is the qualification you get, in relation to what you are going to learn (the course content)?
6. How do you plan to use coaching once you are qualified? Are you going to specialise in business coaching, personal coaching, sports coaching etc?
7. What have you learnt about yourself by answering the above questions?

Once you have all these points clear, you will have a solid foundation to begin your search for the school that best suits your needs. Contact several of them and ask about the points that are key for you. A master’s in coaching is usually a big investment, so you have to be sure that you have made the right decision.

Not all schools follow the same methods or place emphasis on the same kind of coaching. Some offer more theory, others are more practical, some are more face-to-face and others offer distance learning. Talk with the directors and teachers from the school. Do you like the way they explain what you want to know about coaching? Do they give you access to information about the courses in addition to what is available on the Internet?

Finally, look at forums and ask other people. We will gladly publish any information that we receive, always bearing in mind that everyone’s experience is very personal and that a school that is appropriate for one person may not be for another. You can leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section and tell us your experiences!

We aim high and demand a lot from him, working in a way that he reaches his goal but trying to make him achieve a better one than the initial proposal, always giving him of course complete freedom to reject or change it if he so wishes. Starting with a high and ambitious goal is a good way to kick start the coachee’s internal resources, energy and motivation.

One way to work out how to suggest difficult and demanding goals is to first establish in which situation the customer finds himself. Then we, as a coach, can see which goal will make our client reach a little higher than he was planning to. We have to ask ourselves what the client needs to hear and then say it, and then make a relevant demand. The next step in the coaching process is to ask the client to carry out a series of actions related to the goal and to check that they are in agreement and ready to commit themselves.

Consider a couple of examples to understand this in practical terms:

# 1: Our client spends more than he earns and is in debt . The client suggests a goal that involves earning twice as much.

Message: “If you’d earn twice as much money, you run the risk of spending twice as much, and being in debt for twice as much if you continue to operate in this way. The first thing to do is break this habit and stop spending more than you can afford.”

Demand: “Stop spending more than you earn and implement a plan for repaying what you owe. ”

Action: “Reduce your outgoings by half, starting this month. Think about how you could do it. Write a plan of action and send it to me. Is that ok?”

# 2: Our customer spends all of his time working (work first, pleasure when he has time).

Message: “What is the point of always working when you can’t enjoy it? The best way to recharge your batteries is to do things you love and that fill you with energy.”

Demand: “Think of activities that fill you with positive energy and that you find pleasurable and put them into practice in your daily life.”

Action: “List 10 sources of pleasure and put at least one into practice every day. Send me a message when you have compiled the list and next week tell me what you’ve done. Ok?”

Hopefully, by making strong demands of our client he will be more motivated to achieve something significant and to improve himself. Of course, in coaching, we always have to take into account the client’s opinion, and, if our suggestions do not seem appropriate, adapt the message and find a demand that satisfies the client and makes him feel comfortable, committed and motivated.

Your Customers Will Actually PAY YOU To Have You Coach Them!”
These people that you are training will continue to buy from you again and again in the future, now that you have become their valued mentor!

Coaching Ebook (Actual Coaching price deal: 29 euros)
Author: Liz Tomey

Would you like to discover a way to help people and make money doing it at the same time?

It’s definitely possible, and… you don’t have to write a book on some specialized subject to make an impact on the Internet either. You can make a killing just offering your own specialized knowledge as a personal Coach.

Becoming A Personal Coach And Mentor Can Generate Huge Profits For You!
Being a personal mentor is really nothing more than teaching a person or several people something that you’re good at. This can be anything. If you’re a good gardener, swimmer or driver you can teach these things to others for profit!

I want you to take just a second and imagine that you are out searching for a product to buy on how to effectively catch rainbow trout (which is a fish). And then you come across two vastly different product offerings. One of them is a book and the other is a personal coaching program.

With the book, you just get the book and a couple of small reports as a bonus and that’s it. With the personal coaching, however, you get a specific mentor that is there for YOU personally to guide you to the success you desire.

It’s plain to see that the personal mentorship is going to be much more valuable to you. You would have someone watching over what you’re doing, guiding your action and telling you when you’re making a mistake or even praising you when you’re doing something right, etc. With a book, you don’t really ever know if or when you’re making a huge mistake… there’s nobody to coach you inside an ebook, but…

With Your Own Coaching Program, You Can Make A Serious Amount Of Money, While Teaching Others What You Already Know! Be it life coaching, business coaching, or any type of specialised coaching!

There are no limits to what you can teach as a mentor. People are constantly looking for specialized information taught by a person who is viewed as an expert. The key point here is “You can teach anything you are knowledgeable & passionate about” and chances are, there are people out there that are interested in what you have to offer!

Can you think of a few things that you are good at that you never thought of teaching to other people? I bet you can, we ALL have things that we’re good at doing.

The trick is learning how to turn those skills into cash…

You’re About To Uncover The Secret Treasure Of Working With Your Own Group Of Protégés For Big Time Profits

Even if you dread creating a product or just don’t want to put together a big book or manual, success is still yours for the taking. Being a professional coach is probably not like any product that you’ve been exposed to before. You will not ever need to create hundreds of pages of text to give your own customers what they need and want to learn from. You are offering your mind, your talents, your personal time and most importantly, yourself to your clients which they will value much more than a book.

So if you’ve been looking for a way to make a killing with your own product or service but just don’t have the time to flesh-out a whole new product, Coaching For Cash is definitely for you!

Being A Coach Is As Easy As Following This Simple Plan Of Action

You will now have access to a proven plan of action that not only shows you the simple way to become a professional coach but also how to do this extremely quickly. You don’t need to waste thousands in investment or hundreds of hours in research and development time, either. All the research has been done for you! This blueprint isn’t some thrown-together piece of content that is just meant to give you a basic understanding of coaching. You’re going to learn everything you need to get started with a bang and also grow your business.

Author: Jimmy D. Brown
Perhaps the most significant business decision I’ve made since starting online in 1999 is to offer a coaching program. It has, literally, doubled and even tripled my income.

A simple look at the numbers explains why it is so important…

It takes 50 customers buying a $20 ebook to earn $1,000.

It takes only 1 customer buying a $1,000 coaching program.

You can make a lot more money with a lot less effort by simply offering something with a greater price tag … in this case, your own coaching program.

It just takes fewer transactions to reach a significant profit level.

And, when you factor in the fact that many customers WANT to spend more money for something limited in nature, for something that provides a level of access, it because paramount that you offer it.

Years ago I heard a speaker talk about high-dollar coffee grinders sold at Starbucks®. His point was clear: while not everyone buys the grinders, when one is sold it significantly increases profit. You gotta sell a lot of cappuccinos and lattes to equal the same profit from a grinder.

It was at that moment that I started working on (and eventually launched) my own Six-Figure Formula™ coaching program. I still offer it about 3-4 times per year and it brings in close to $100,000 just by itself. I tell you all that not because you’re interested in me and what I’ve done, but because you’re interested in you and what you can do.

Quite simply: If you’re willing to invest just a few dollars, I’ll explain some things that I’ve done - which you can do - to launch a successful coaching program.

This report will teach you a few things:

3 different ways to start your own coaching program - including one method that you can get started using TODAY with nothing more than a sales letter in place.

The “ultimate coaching model” that you’ll probably think “it can’t be that easy, no one will pay for that” at first glance … until you see how 50 students pay me $197 per month!

Why coaching isn’t simply “trading your time for money” - in fact, as I disclose in this report, many pay for coaching and rarely even interact with their coach.

A super easy way to use “other people’s content” for YOUR coaching program … I actually learned this amazing technique when someone used MY content for THEIR coaching program! (Completely “legit”, I might add.)

My sneaky method of launching a coaching program EARLY so you can get paid much quicker than ever before … in fact, I’ll give you TWO ways to take this shortcut!

A big, big mistake that most people offering coaching programs make (especially those launching their FIRST program … although I have seen “pros” do this too!) and how you can avoid it with one little “change”.

A 5-step, process for becoming a C.O.A.C.H. in your own high-ticket coaching program … includes a simple “overview” blueprint for establishing your program.

Your #1 best option for “running” your coaching program … this “blows away” what most people are using with their coaching and will simplify (and greatly improve!) the ease and success in which you conduct your interaction with clients.

The very first task that I work on with my clients is defining a target market (or niche) for their business. We do this first because everything you will need to do to make your business successful, including creating an effective web site, starting an ezine, and creating online marketing plan depends on what the target market is.

Same is true for your coaching business. Whether it is a life coaching business, business coaching business, career coaching business or any other coaching business, it does not matter. If you do not define your target market first, you can’t market to it. If you can’t market, you can’t get any coaching clients, it’s just that simple.

I have worked with coaches who have owned their own business for a few years and who still haven’t decided on what their target markets are going to be. As a result, these coaches are not able to market their business well and don’t have too many clients. Don’t make the mistake that these coaches are making. If you don’t know who the target market is for your coaching business, spend some time on this and decide on your target market in the next month. Once you define a target market for your coaching business, you will see that it gets much easier to market your business online and get clients.

Here is a plan to help you use the information about your target market to market your business better:

- Talk about your target market on your coaching web site. Use your web site content to create a message that really speaks to your target customers. Tell them what you do and how you can help them. When your target customers know that you specialize in working with people just like them, they are more likely to hire you.

- Include the information about your target market into your introduction when networking, both online and offline. When you tell others who your target market is, they are more likely to refer your target market to you.

- Find out where your target market networks. Once you know who your target customers are, find out where they network. Now join these networking groups and promote your expertise there. Doing this will help you become known to your target market.

There are lots more benefits that result from defining an effective target market for your coaching business. One of the best benefits is that it will become much simpler and easier to get more coaching clients and newsletter subscribers once you define your target market. If you still don’t have a target market for your coaching business, act now and define it.

If you have heard of personal development, it is likely you know what a life coach is. It can be hard to define, as a life coach is a general term, and not all life coaches are alike. So, how did they become a life coach?, and how can they help you?. A life coach is basically someone who has the answers to the pressing issues in your life. And we all have those problems, so a life coach likely can help you get unstuck sooner than if you had to try and find the solution to the problem yourself. A life coach can help you see new opportunities which you did not realize existed in front of you. A life coach can also help you make your desire reality, especially in business, if you have a goal or vision. A life coach has a lot of contacts, and they may be able to help you find the person you need to make your project a reality.

A life coach is also a great way to keep you committed to achieving a certain objective. A life coach can give you the push needed to make an objective reality. After all, if you do not do the advice given by a life coach, you will have to answer to it at the next scheduled meeting! This makes finding a life coach and enlisting there help generally something which a person dedicated to high achievement subscribes to. Top athletes would not be where they are if they did not have there own coaches to help them achieve there best.

But, how did these people become life coaches? The stories are always different. With the personal development industry, you will often find these people had trying times in there lives, which to others would seem insurmountable. But, they have one thing in common; they found the solution, and now share it with the world. Today, this is becoming less of the case. Whereas 10, 20 years ago, you may have never known what a life coach was, but may have known about consultants, today life coaching is much more popular. This has an added advantage, but also a negative aspect.

Life coaching certification has sprung up, which makes a certain standard with life coaching, but often does not provide all that people need. For example, whereas those life coaches who have been life coaching for decades have the experience, the newer certified life coaches maybe too new to have had the actual experience, and instead have answers.

The choice comes down to what you need. Both can provide the answers, though if you need someone with the actual experience, it may need searching more than simply finding someone who has the qualifications.
A life coach in either case can benefit you, but only when you know what you need them for. It comes down to looking at your life, and considering areas you want to improve in. They could be financial, health, success, and even relationships. Each life coach generally has a specialty, and here is where you can benefit.
