Coaching Tool- The 12 Times, organising the 100 hours week
| Coaching | Archived in: Coaching Tools
One of the most useful tools for the coach when working with our customer in clarifying his “present situation” is putting on paper how he organises and arranges his time, over the whole week, in each one of the professional and personal areas in which we may be working during the coaching process.
To do so, this interesting coaching tool, named the 12 Times, consists on taking the approximate 100 hours we all have for us during the week (taking out the normal 8 hours sleep) and divide them into 12 main areas mostly present in our life.
The idea is, first, to assign to each of the activities the real number of hours we think we use (for instance, we spend 50 hours working, 10 hours watching TV, 2 hours jogging, etc- you have the tool in excel format for you to download at the end of this post), and then analyse how you are using your time.
Do you agree with the result? Are you astonish that you only spend a few hours doing what you really love doing? Are we happy with the way our time is spread among the different areas?
Whatever the result may be, you have a second column to note down what you really wish, what you would like your “ideal week” to be in terms of how many hours do you spend in each of the activities you do. That is, how do I want to spend the 100 hours that I have available for me? How my ideal week would look like? As from this point, compare the numbers and make some notes for yourself. Which areas do require a better balance? What can I do seeing this result to improve a bit my life, my time?
The idea of this coaching tool is to help all us clarify our life, seeing the result in clear numbers, to put our focus on those areas in which we do not live as we would like. It is a first step to start thinking on an action plan to make those small changes that could result on a huge improvement. Check it out and let us know!.
